Wooden Soma Cube Brain Teaser in a Box
Seven wooden pieces, one cube, hundreds of ways to get it wrong and a very good feeling when you get it right.
- A classic that still works: the Soma cube has been frustrating clever people since 1933.
- Solid wood in a wooden box: heavy pieces, clean edges, a box that lives on the coffee table.
- Endless shapes: once the cube is solved, the same pieces make dozens of other figures.
The Soma cube is seven irregular wooden pieces that fit together into a 3 by 3 cube. There are 240 ways to do it, which sounds easy until you try. It is the puzzle people pick up while waiting for the kettle and put down twenty minutes later.
This version is solid wood with a wooden lidded box, so it looks like something you would leave out rather than something you would hide. When the cube is done, the same seven pieces build a bed, a dog, a tower and dozens of other figures.
It is a good screen free half hour, alone or as a challenge across the table.
